With support of afilii – an innovative plattform for design for kids – cologn base fair KIND + JUGEND invited designers to submit trendsetting ideas and concepts. Modular storage and seating system of Bremen based designer Jannis Ellenberger, a design which originates from 2009, was nominated for the exhibition FUTURE OF KIDS DESIGN in HALL 10.1, C080 during the fair, winner of the competition and finally selected for further development in cooperation with well known kids’ furniture producer DE BREUYN.

Kids always want to be around their parents. Children are learning by imitating adults. They have an unappeasable desire for growing up and being part of it! Besides the image and needs of the family have changed dramatically over the past years…

So the central idea behind this design is not to separate kids from the adults world. This modular system of storage, working and seating furniture considers both, adults and children‘s requirements by combining natural and warm materials such as wood and felt with white. Even though the system is suitable for modern offices, it offers perfect small solutions for private spaces and home office use.

White storage containers rest on 31 cm tall solid oak legs. This way all relevant levels for seats and tables – adults and children! – are included in the system allowing to add components such as desks and benches. Doors are laminated with natural felt, easily providing a playful range of colors.

The seat of the kids chair is made out of molded plywood with oak veneer and laminated with felt as well. A simple clip-lamp can easily be attached and moved at the desktops of the system.
