What contribution can design make to the sustainable transformation of the economy?
Outstanding design can now more than ever provide answers to the challenges of our time by focusing on the impact of products on the planet and our society – through multi-perspective approaches, sustainable and circular design processes, or resource- and environmentally-friendly production.
This is precisely where the design of Loop Dining Table comes in. The table is completely glue-free, meaning it can be fully disassembled into its individual components and seamlessly returned to the biological or technical cycle at the end of its life. The solid oak tabletop consists of seven individual wooden planks, which are tensioned together by a wire rope that also connects them to the round table legs.
During assembly, consumers are directly confronted with the principles of circular design. The uncompromising avoidance of glue as a plastic, along with other non-recyclable materials, is immediately reflected in the table’s construction. Even when fully assembled, the individual wooden planks remain visibly distinct, turning the table – often the central gathering place for conversation – into a talking point about sustainability, inspiring reflection and imitation.
By combining traditional craftsmanship with innovative and unconventional distribution channels, the table can be produced in series in an environmentally friendly and regional manner. The oak wood comes from sustainably managed forests and is further processed by local craftsmen. The furniture is then sold directly from the designer to the end customer through an independent online shop.
